Celebrate Research Month at TRU

  Posted on: March 8, 2024

Join the library in celebrating Research Month with the Office of the Vice President Research! Research Month runs through the month of March and is a celebration of TRU’s growing research capacity and our commitment to research:

There are many great events happening in March under the research month umbrella! Check out Coyote Coyote Brings the Food Conference March 11-12 and Little Lectures Big Ideas March 14. The library is supporting the Undergraduate Research and Innovation Conference and short research presentation competitions.

Undergraduate Research Conference:
The annual Undergraduate Research & Innovation Conference is a chance for students from all programs and at all stages of their undergraduate experience to share their work with the rest of the TRU and Kamloops community. This year’s conference will include several poster sessions in the Learning Commons, 1st floor of the House of Learning, and lecture sessions in OLARA. See the the full conference program and plan on coming out to talk with some of the student researchers; this is a free event and everyone is welcome.

Research Presentation Competitions: There are three short research presentation competitions in March: one for graduate students, one for undergraduate students, and one for faculty. All these competitions are held on the 2nd floor of OLARA.

– Graduate students are encouraged to participate in the Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT) on March 21 at 10:00am. Students share their thesis research in three minutes or less with one slide to a non-specialist audience. Presenters can register for this event by March 10th.
– Undergraduate students can present their research in three minutes during the the In a Nutshell Undergraduate Thesis Competition on March 20th at 6:00pm. Registration has closed for this event but all are welcome to attend.
– Faculty who wish to share their research in three minutes or less in the 180-second Research Challenge on March 19th at 4:00pm. The registration deadline is March 12th.

If you would like support or tips on how you can create your one slide for your presentation in any of these competitions, join Erin May in OLARA on March 13th at 1:30pm. This workshop will be geared towards graduate students participating in the 3MT but will benefit all. If you cannot make this workshop, feel free to contact Erin: emay@tru.ca or visit the 3MT Slide Guide.

We’re looking forward to seeing you throughout Research Month!
