Article Processing Charge (APC)

  Posted on: January 22, 2024

Open Access (OA) is a global movement seeking to make academic information freely and legally available online. There are many benefits to publishing your research in OA journals including:

Article Processing Charge (APC)

Many OA journals charge authors a fee to publish their article. This Article Processing Charge (APC) covers the publishing costs normally recovered through journal subscriptions. APC charges are $2000 on average which can be a barrier to researchers, faculty, and students interested in, or required to publish in OA journals.

The Library and the Office of VP Research can help!

The Office of the Vice-President Research is currently offering funds for OA publishing:

  • Open Access Publishing Grants (one-time funding) support TRU authors who wish to publish in peer-reviewed OA journals and who are required to pay an APC.
  • Award amount is up to a maximum of $3,000. DEADLINE: March 1, 2024
  • Please apply through Romeo.

For further advice on budgeting for APC in grant proposals, consult with the Grants Development Team in the Research Office.

The Library, through its participation in the Canadian Research Knowledge (CRKN) Network, has transformative licenses for OA journals that waive or discount the APC for TRU faculty and students.
