Connect to Articles with LibKey Nomad

  Posted on: August 21, 2026

This summer, the Library partnered with IT Services to deploy LibKey Nomad, a browser extension from Third Iron that helps faculty, staff, and students quickly connect to online journal articles available through TRU Library subscriptions.

LibKey Nomad helps you move beyond publisher paywalls and provides seamless access to the evidence-based, peer-reviewed literature you need for your teaching, learning, and research.

The extension has been installed on the Chrome and Edge browsers on all TRU computers connected to the Microsoft network. Instructions for adding LibKey Nomad to other supported browsers are available here.

When you search using tools such as Google, Google Scholar, PubMed, Wikipedia, or AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot, LibKey Nomad displays an access button when TRU Library provides access to the article. This allows you to connect directly to the full text through the Library’s subscriptions, helping you quickly verify and access scholarly sources.

Identifying Problematic Publishers
LibKey Nomad also provides information about publishers and journals that may demonstrate concerning publishing practices. When you visit a journal or publisher that has been flagged through Third Iron’s review process, LibKey Nomad displays information explaining why the publication has been identified as potentially problematic.
