Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is gearing up for its annual Day of Giving on Thursday, Feb. 26, a 24‑hour philanthropic push rallying alumni, faculty, staff, and friends to support student success.
Running from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. (PST), the Day of Giving challenges the TRU community to help raise $80,000 in just one day, with every dollar going toward scholarships, bursaries, awards, and enhanced learning experiences across all campuses and programs.
This year, the TRU Library is encouraging supporters to direct their donations to the Millennium Library Endowment Fund—a critical resource that helps sustain and grow TRU’s academic collections.
A Fund With a Lasting Legacy
First launched in 2000 as part of a major institutional fundraising effort, the Millennium Library Endowment was created to strengthen the university’s collection base, expand journal holdings, and position what was then the University College of the Cariboo to take advantage of emerging technologies.
Today, the fund has grown to approximately $700,000, generating an annual endowment of $25,000. These dollars help offset the library’s $1.7 million annual electronic subscription costs. This ensures students and faculty have access to the high‑quality academic resources they need for study, teaching, and research.
Double Your Donation
All gifts made through tru.ca/givingday on Feb. 26 will be matched dollar‑for‑dollar, up to $2,500 per donor. A total of $20,000 in matching funds is available, meaning early donations have the best chance to secure matching dollars and maximize impact.
Phone donations made by calling 250‑828‑5264 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 26 are also eligible for matching.
How to Support the Library
To contribute directly to the Millennium Library Endowment:
- Visit the TRU Giving Day site.
- Select “Choose Your Cause”
- Choose Millennium Library Endowment Fund from the drop‑down menu
Your gift on this single day helps sustain the library’s print and electronic resources, cornerstones of learning, teaching, and scholarly inquiry for the entire TRU community.
Make Your Impact on Feb. 26
For 24 hours, every contribution—large or small—drives meaningful change. Together, we can help students thrive and ensure TRU’s library collections remain strong and future‑ready.
