Happy New Year and welcome to the start of a new semester!
At Thompson Rivers University Library, we are committed to supporting on-campus and open learning faculty in their teaching, research and scholarly communication. Whether you are designing a course, conducting research or preparing your work for publication, our librarians and staff are available to assist. The following overview highlights core services available to faculty.
Course Readings
Faculty can make required readings easily accessible to students by placing materials on reserve. Both physical and electronic reserves are available, and digital readings can be accessed through Moodle or in the library. Course readings are fully searchable online for student convenience. Reserve requests can be submitted through our online form or by contacting library staff.
Connect with our borrower services librarian for more details.
Library Instruction
Librarians work with faculty to deliver instruction that strengthens students’ research and information literacy skills. We offer:
- In‑class or online workshops
- Custom research guides
- Support in designing effective research assignments
- Additional tailored services based on course needs
Share your learning outcomes, and we will develop a session that aligns with your curriculum. Booking early is recommended to ensure availability. You can contact your subject librarian through our online directory.
Research Support and Scholarly Communication
Subject librarians provide expert guidance at any stage of the research process, from refining a research question to navigating complex databases. Support includes:
- Assistance with systematic and literature reviews and advanced database searching
- Help with citation management tools such as Zotero and Mendeley
- Training in tools including LibKey Nomad, BrowZine, Covidence and others
The library also supports faculty throughout the publishing process. Our scholarly communications librarian can help you with:
- Open access publishing and available funding
- Copyright and author rights
- Research impact metrics
- Depositing work in TRUSpace, the institutional repository
- Research data management practices
Collections
The TRU Library builds collections that reflect the breadth of the university’s academic programs and research priorities. Faculty are encouraged to recommend materials for acquisition, including books, journals, streaming media and databases. The library provides access to extensive electronic resources, from subject‑specific collections to interdisciplinary tools. If an item is not currently held, we will help locate it through interlibrary loan or explore purchase options. Contact our collections librarian for more information.
