Did you know that TRU Library provides access to a secure research data repository for TRU faculty, students, and staff, powered by Borealis, the Canadian Dataverse Repository? Whether you’re working on a thesis, a collaborative project, or a major research initiative, Borealis helps you store, share, and preserve your data for the long term.
What Is Borealis?
Borealis is a bilingual, multi-disciplinary, secure Canadian research data repository supported by academic libraries and research institutions across the country. It enables open discovery, management, sharing, and preservation of research data. TRU’s Borealis Collection is available to researchers affiliated with TRU and their collaborators.
Why Deposit Your Data?
Depositing your data, uploading it with a brief description (metadata), has several benefits, including:
Advancing your field: Make your data available for reuse by other researchers.
Boosting your impact: Your data can be cited, increasing the visibility of your work.
Meeting funding requirements: Many grants now require data to be deposited in a trusted repository.
By depositing your data in TRU’s Borealis Collection, you’ll meet these requirements and contribute to a culture of open, transparent research.
What Is Research Data Management (RDM)?
Research Data Management involves organizing, storing, and sharing your data throughout its lifecycle. Key steps include:
- Collecting and describing your data.
- Storing and preserving it securely.
- Sharing and archiving it for future use.
A Data Management Plan (DMP) outlines how you’ll handle these steps. Depositing your data in Borealis can be a key part of your DMP.
