The TRU Library is commemorating Remembrance Day with two displays this year, featuring material from two parts of our collection. The Main Library entrance way will see a return of our Aboriginal Veterans display, honoring Secwepemc veterans from WWI, WWII, and the Korean War and showcasing a variety of resources about the often unrecognized role aboriginal peoples have played in the Canadian military.
Inside the Main Library, the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War will be commemorated with another display. The highlight of this display is a 2-volume set donated to the library last year by community member Marion Owens. The volumes contain the letters her father wrote from the front, and that family members wrote to him, reproduced along with photos and privately published by the family. Letters home: World War 1 1916-1919 and Letters to the front: World War 1 1916-1919 are an amazing example of primary resources about everyday people.
We encourage everyone to drop by and take a look at both of these collections, which will be on display November 3-14. Material in both collections may be borrowed if you’re interested in taking a closer look. For items in the display case, just ask at the front counter and we’ll get it for you.
