The Living Library: Coming to International Days!

  Posted on: March 3, 2014

Wednesday March 12, TRU Library presents “The Living Library: An Intercultural Exchange” as part of International Days. Based on the Human Library  project, the Living Library lets people “borrow” another actual person, who has volunteered to be a “book” for the event and share their stories. The idea is to facilitate intercultural dialogue, livinglibraryadchallenge stereotypes, and promote understanding.

We’ve got some interesting “books” lined up, both faculty and students. Depending on who you choose to “borrow” and talk with, you may find out what it’s like to walk a 2400 km journey of healing, or to be a marathon runner.  Or what it’s like to study forests in Thailand, live in Japan, or to be an international student studying in a new country.  Have you ever met someone who can speak Laotian, or who practices Reiki?  We all have so many stories to share; this is an opportunity to actually take the time to sit and “read” just a few of the amazing stories on our campus.

The Living Library will be set next to Starbucks on Student Street in OM, 10:30 – 1:30 pm. You’ll have a chance to read short summaries of our participating “books,” and to then sign up to “borrow” those that interest you for a 20-minute conversation. There are a limited number of loans available, so show up early to get your first pick!
